Prices & Shipping Policies For Dormant Plants

We ship dormant (bare root) plants in the Continental USA, from December through the end of February. The plants will be pruned from 12" to 18" in height for shipping purposes. The plants are shipped USPS Priority mail. They will need to be planted as soon as you receive them! If this is done, your plants will still be dormant, and will be unharmed. If they are NOT planted as soon as you receive them, you run a risk of damaging or killing the plants. Planting instructions are found on this page, and are sent with each order.

 Planting Instruction For Dormant Plants

The “Goji Berry Tree” is an amazing plant, that often seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes the plant will start out as a leafy vine, and produce several “runners” on top of the soil. Other times the plant will start out as a single leafy “stem,” that will stand straight up, and soon become “top heavy.” Often a single seed will produce multiple “stems, and vines.” To avoid damping-off disease, all of these different presentations require a “support stake (like a tomato vine stake)” to keep them off the ground. Over time, the Goji plant will produce thick, multiple, stalks and branches, that will support itself; earning the name “Goji Tree.”

When growing in the wild, the Goji can grow up to 10 feet tall, get 8 feet in diameter, and produce vines up to 20 feet long. Plant your new Goji Tree with this in mind. The Goji prefers direct sunlight, and well draining soil. If the temperature exceeds 104 degrees Fahrenheit, partial shade is recommended. The plant cannot survive in standing water, or temperatures below –16 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Before planting your Goji Tree you must prepare your “planting hole.”

  1. Dig an 8-inch diameter hole, about twice as deep as your root system is long.
  2. Loosely back-fill your hole with the same soil you just removed (you could blend your soil with as much as 25% organic compost at this time), creating a “mound” in the middle, and all the way to the top of your hole.
  3. Position your root system around all sides of the mound, and gently cover the roots to the “crown (where the root meets the stem)” of the plant. Firmly pack this planting with your hands, being careful not to damage the root, or cover the “stem” with soil.
  4. Water your planting in good to remove “air pockets,” and then add soil as needed to fill any gaps that appear after watering.
  5. Water twice a week, until the dormant plant produces its first leaves, and then once a week thereafter.
  6. Once the plant is well established (4 to 6 weeks) you can add your favorite organic fertilizer. We highly recommend our “Organic Seaweed Fertilizer” as both a soil additive, and leaf foliate. Remember, your Goji Tree will only produce the fruit that your soil, plant food, and climate will provide.
  7. Your new Goji Tree should produce a few berries by the end of the second year, and will become fully mature in 4 to 6 years.
  8. And finally.. all Gods creatures love to eat the Goji. You must protect the plant from birds, and insects. There are many good organic pesticides to choose from. If wild birds become a problem, you might consider covering the plants with horticultural netting material found at most fine Nurseries.

Goji Plant Guarantee

We guarantee that the Goji plant you order is alive, and (if planted immediately - according to instruction) will break winter dormancy and sprout leaves. We do NOT guarantee that the Goji plant will continue to grow in your specific area. Because Goji plants are new here in the United States, there is absolutely no data on where they will and will not grow. All of our information comes from our experience growing the Goji here in the Magazine Mountains of Arkansas for the past 3 years, and from customer feed back. The Goji grows well here, and our growing information is passed on to you. All plants are shipped in good health (USDA Certified), using Priority Mail for a fast delivery. Please contact us for more details.
