CAUTION: POSSIBLE DRUG INTERACTION!!

Lycium barbarum (Goji berries) have analgesic (pain killing), and anticoagulant (blood thinning) properties, very much like the common aspirin, but without the harsh side-effects. This herb may be taken with aspirin, or other pain killers (if needed), but may interact with anticoagulant drugs (commonly called "blood-thinners"), such as warfarin (Coumadin®). There was one case report published in the journal Annals of Pharmacotherapy of a 61-year old woman who had an increased risk of bleeding, indicated by an elevated international normalized ratio (INR). She had been drinking 3-4 cups daily of goji berry tea. Her blood work returned to normal after discontinuing the goji berry tea.

A recent report in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) stated that "the common aspirin is safer, and more effective than warfarin (Coumadin®), for blood-thinning, and far less expensive." If you are taking this harsh, chemical, blood-thinner, warfarin, or Coumadin®, BEFORE CONSUMING GOJI BERRIES!!!, speak with your doctor about this JAMA report, and suggest a regimen of Raw, All Natural, Goji Berries instead.

*There are dozens of species of Lycium that grow wild throughout the world, but not all are edible!

Goji, an English contraction of the Mandarin name, gou ji zi (pronounced "goo-chee" for wolfberry), has been used for thousands of years in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). It is "sweet to the taste," and is renowned for its nutrient density. The fruit of Lycium barbarum (the botanical name for Goji), is a very rich source of vitamins and minerals, especially in vitamins A, C and E, flavanoids, and other bio-active compounds, such as the essential mineral zinc, carotenoids, beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and selinium. It is also an excellent source of essential amino and fatty acids, which is fairly unusual for a fruit. The entire plant is edible, and "germanium" is found in its root, which is extreamly rare for a plant. Lycium barbarum also contains a totally unique polysaccharide (found in no other plant on earth), and has the highest antioxidant level of any known species.

Common names: Gou qi zi, Goji Tree, Goji, wolfberry, lycium fruit, bastard jasmine, box thorn, tea tree, matrimony vine, Red Diamond.

Scientific names: Lycium barbarum; Lycium chinense; Lycium europeaum (These are all different species of the plant, but have similar properties. Many botanists unite the three species under the name L. barbarum, but they are, in fact, distinct. Only "NingXia Lycium barbarum" is the "True Goji Berry."

*Lycium barbarum is new to the Western hemisphere. Scientist and botanist in the United States are just now beginning to grow, and investigate Lycium barbarum, as a food that is capable of reducing the incidence of cancer, and also as a means of halting or reversing the growth of cancers.

As said by Socrates,"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."

Seventy nine people in advanced stages of cancer were treated with the drug LAK/IL-2 combined with Lycium Barbarum polysaccharides (LBP). From the 75 evaluable patients, regression of the following cancers was observed: malignant melanoma, renal cell carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, lung cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and malignant hydrothorax. The response rate of patients treated with LAK/IL-2 and LBP was 40.9% while that of patients treated only with LAK/IL-2 was 16.1%. *Study
