I am trying to establish a Goji berry plantation. It's early days yet. The plants are spending their first winter in the ground and they look like they are dead. I hope they will come back to life in the spring.

There is a blog if you want to follow the story.

Dear Franklin,

It was a pleasure talking to you and learning about Goji berry.

Being in the health profession, evidence based medicine has taken centerstage but we must not forget that Nature holds the key to many health problems we face today.

We live in a world filled with refined, processed, genetically altered and modified and radiated food. It is necessary to take good supplements at least to maintain health.

Good evening, Brian, Frank, and the entire crew @ Goji Trees!

What a wonderful site! I love it.  I can't get enough. I would love to get involved,,,,and if there is ever ANY way that I can help, please don't hesitate.  There's no way I would turn down an old friend.

Interestingly enough, I was considering purchasing a Goji last year for my herb garden. But, as my herb garden hasn't come about yet, I haven't gotten one yet.  Now I know who to talk to!   ;)

Best wishes on your success,

~Missie

Doug says...

I was surfing the net for Goji Berries and came across a lady that is selling cuttings from some Goji that she claimed was growing in Promomtory Point Utah, near the Golden Spike, where the Transcontinental Railroad met in 1869. Many Chinese workers helped build this railroad.

I only live 180 miles from there, so my wife and I decided to take the road trip on Sunday.

Well, we did. When we pulled into the parking lot of the Golden Spike, there were Goji growing every where! We went over to the tracks where the old trains are and there were Goji growing about 20 yards away in the desert. From an old picture there at the site, I could see that Goji had grow either behind or in front of the little Shanty Town that had sprung up.

There was not one berry on any plant. I'm sure the birds strip them PRONTO! The thing is, this area is about as dry as Death Valley but still the Goji were living just fine.

We also found a small creek a few miles away with huge Goji growing near by. I got about 40 cuttings and put them in water for the ride home. They are now resting well in my green house, haveing been dipped in rooting hormone and placed in pots or sand/peatmoss. I can't tell you just how excited I was to find them, but then I am just odd in that way!

I can't wait to see what these will produce. I think these Goji are worth growing and saving.

Any thoughts?

Hello To The Goji Team. We are from Australia, My wife and I. we are ready to move to ecuador. Have a couple  of acres there at 7,500 ft above sea level but being on the equator the temp ranges over the 24 hours from 12 to 24 degees but does drop a little lower than that foe a few hours  between midnight and and early  hours of the morning. The soil is a sandy loam with good drainage and very few chemicals are used there. Most of the country is organic,. My estimate for an acre of land is 70 goji trees. Would that be a fair estimate.

Is there any problem in sending seeds into Ecuador.. Yes I  really appreciate the quality of your site and commiment  to the goji fruit and herb. I was taking wolfberry for many years from my chinese herbalist.

Hope to hear from you

I aquired Goji seed two years ago. I started them in my basement in Febuary, under 400 watt grow lights and had about 85% germination rate. When they were about 6 to 8 inches tall, I planted them along my fence. This year, I have 7 to 12 foot plants and tons of berries. I love the taste. They energize me when I eat 3 or 4 hand fulls.

I just received my No. 1 Ning-qi Goj seed from Fountain Of Youth Goji farm. I will start every last seed this comming Febuary. After they grow out and I select the best plants, I will take cuttings to propagate many, many plants. I plan on starting a few acre Goji orchard.

Thank you for all the great info here. All I need is info on how to maintain a Goji Orchard. Spacing, trellis, fertilizer and such. Are there any publications from China, in English?

Dear Doug,

Sounds like you are having great success with your present crop. I had the pleasure of eating my first "fresh" Da Ma Ye Goji berries this year. It took me 5 years to produce these berries from "seed." They were small berries, and few in number, but they were absolutely delicious. In my humble opinion "it was worth the wait." We hope you have better success than we have had with the "No.1 Ning-qi" cultivar. So far, we have been disappointed with the NQ-1 (No.1 of Ning-qi), and (due to excessive water, and high temps) have only had modest success with any Goji cultivar. We are excited however by our new crop of Rich Nature® Da Ma Ye Goji seed. These are the most fertile Goji seeds we have seen in our 6 years of research. We would love to see pictures of your Goji crop. You may contact Dr. Zhisheng Qing, from this website, with any questions you may have regarding the NQ-1. Dr. Qing is the foremost expert in the world on this semi-hybred cultivar, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Please keep us informed on your success with NQ-1.

Dear Andrea,

With regard to Cumadin®, or Warfarrin, Warfarin (Coumadin®) is the most widely prescribed anticoagulant drug in the United States. When taken with goji juice, cranberry juice, avocados, spinach, ginseng, fish oil supplements, and other natural herbs, fruits, and vegitables, Warfarin (Coumadin®) can cause stroke, heart attack, and death. "Warfarin" was concocted to KILL RATS, and is still used for that purpose! If you are taking this "rat poison," PLEASE speak with your doctor BEFORE consuming any berries, fruits, or vegitables!!:(

We are truly sorry that we find no record of Goji Berry "curing severe brain injury." I understand the nutrients in Goji can "strengthen the immune system," and help some brain injuries heal themselves much faster. Just as Goji has not yet proven to cure cancer in humans, consumption of the nutrients, found in Goji, have proven to "prevent cancer growth in humans," "shrink tumors in lab animals," and help heal the damage, caused by cancer, in both animals and humans.:)

I also know for a fact that consuming a few (about 15g) "raw" dried Goji berries a day, has 'cured' my chronic gastritis (stomach ulcers), and dramatically improved my chronic heart condition. Since I have added nothing but Goji to my diet, my own Cardiologist has stated that "Goji can be the only explanation for my continued recovery from "Chronic Heart Failure." This kind of "Health," and  "Medical Report" has given this 60 year old man an "Attitude Adujustment." I hope Goji can do as much for you, and yours, as it has for me and mine. :D

We realize our website has become very large. We like to call it "comprehensive." However, please read at least the first 4 pages of our websitesite, and many of your questions will be answered. If not, we are easy to contact, and you can always visit Our Goji Berry FAQ.

Warmest Regards,

Rich
